ProForm Endurance 520 E review

The functionality offered by the 520 E elliptical is quite impressive for the mid range price point. A good amount of choice in workout applications, adjustable stride settings and inclines, as well as a respectable levels of tension to keep you training hard.

Its manufacturer, ProForm, are a well known brand in this industry with plenty of options presented to consumers before its release that have received great feedback. And at first glance, this product does appear to have a fair bit of positive feedback from consumers too.

The good

Resistance – Ensures users go at an intensity befitting of their current fitness level by including eighteen differing levels ranging from easy to hard, and each controllable digitally from the computer console at the front. Operates on magnetic resistance which is reasonably quiet and smooth.

Incline settings – People will be able to switch up their training that little bit more and add a little extra difficulty by training at higher levels of incline. Users can set this at a maximum of twenty degrees.

Exercise apps – Much like the variety in tension offered, it’s also equipped with a diverse range of workout programs. Eighteen in total to work through. Again, this is something that’s controlled through the console menu.

Computerized console – You’ll be able to keep track of important information relating to how your latest exercise is going through the use of statistics given on the screen at the front. Offers users an insight into performance through tracked info on speed, calories, and many of the other standard readouts you would expect to see in a mid range elliptical machine.

Stride length – Provides a good amount of length with a twenty inch, adjustable stride length.

Heart rate tracking – Keep tabs on your heart rate by using the EKG hand grips that will sense your pulse rate and send it to the computer for you to record.

Weight limit – The listed three hundred pound weight capacity is nothing out of the ordinary when compared with its many competitors, but it still shows it’s built well enough to hold heavier than average users, which hints at a strong and stable frame. Perhaps not of the same ilk as commercial cardio machines, but for home usage, this will usually be fine.

Entertainment – Compatible with iPods, allowing users to stride to your favorite tunes. Also includes a handy tablet holder for any additional apps you want to use.

The bad

iFit compatibility – Although it’s listed as  iFit compatible, it should be taken into consideration that you will need to purchase additional items such as the wireless module which is sold separately.

Wrapping up

The Endurance 520 E isn’t a bad option for training at home. The specs listed highlight some good qualities that will keep you challenged and working up a sweat. The choice in incline, resistance, and workout applications are the main selling points in our view, and it could certainly work well alongside other strength training gear in your gym full a well rounded, healthy lifestyle.
